GearUp - The HGV Technician PathwayGearUp is your fast track into the HGV world. If you’ve worked with vehicles, engines, or anything mechanical for a minimum of three years, but want a proper route to progress in the HGV world, this is it. You’ll join us as a full-time employee from day one, earn while you train, and work alongside experienced HGV technicians to build real, in-demand skills.

Typical earnings for a fully skilled HGV Technician range from £40,000 to £55,000 depending on your location and shift pattern, with optional overtime at attractive rates to further boost your earning potential!

The Journey

We’ll tailor your training to suit your background and support you to gain what you need to become an HGV Technician, resulting in becoming IRTEC qualified. You’ll continue on with us in a permanent HGV role — no training fees, no dead ends, just a clear way forward in a sector that needs you.

You’ll join Pullman as a full-time employee from day one, gaining practical experience while working alongside qualified and highly experienced HGV technicians.

With our training partner, Remit Training – a leading provider of automotive and transport training. you’ll cover the following:

  • Air brake systems
  • Road friendly suspension (air suspension)
  • Electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS)
  • Emission control systems
  • Anti-lock braking and electronic braking systems
  • Diesel particulate filters + selective catalytic reduction
  • Legislation related to braking systems per the HGV Tester’s manual

Who is GearUp for?

This programme is ideal for people with mechanical experience who want to build a long-term career as an HGV technician.

You might currently be:

  • Proven background in LCV servicing and repairs.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance.
  • A strong desire to learn and develop HGV expertise.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

If you have a strong foundation in vehicle or mechanical maintenance and want to progress into the HGV industry, we can help you get there.
